The start of the new year is a great time for your periodic washing machine maintenance. Clean clothes are dependent on a clean washing machine.
Clean the drum where you place your clothes, as residual soap and lint can collect in there. Give it a good wipe with a cleansing cloth or you can run an empty load on hot and add a cup of vinegar. This will help prevent the build-up of mold and mildew. Don’t forget to clean the doors and the door seals. It’s also a great idea to spiffy up the outside, as people commonly put clean clothes on top of the machine after they pull them from the dryer. For front-load machines, it’s also helpful to get in the habit of leaving the washer door open for a few hours after each load. This will aid in the prevention of mold and mildew.
Did you know that washers have filters, not just dryers? Clean the filer that collects lint, coins and other items. This protects the washing machine pump from getting blocked. The location of the filter varies, so consult your owner’s manual, or if you purchased one of our machines, you can call our appliance department for assistance. When you locate the filter, pull it out and give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush.
Finally, give the detergent drawer a good cleaning. There are often over spills that never get wiped up for many loads. Pull it out and let it soak in warm water for a few minutes, then scrub away any build-up. Before putting it back in the machine, give the detergent opening a good scrub with the old tooth brush.
We hope you enjoy happy, clean laundering in the New Year.
