Same people, same place, now Ace

April 2019 Update:  Our transition to Ace is nearly complete.  Have you noticed the new Ace rugs and merchandise?  Last week we had to sacrifice our discount aisle to lawn & garden, but that doesn’t mean the deals are done.  We will continue to feature products in the center aisle at 75% off until our Grand Re-opening celebration in May.

Our re-merchandising team finishes their work on April 2nd, but the process won’t end when they leave.  Our next job is to scan empty hooks, see what is hidden upstairs, and fill the shelves.  We are also processing the mountain of totes in our overstock area, finding products to put on sale and ones that need to be added back into our product offerings.

Please let a staff member know if you cannot find a product that you used to purchase from us.  Ace offers different brands, sizes, and colors than True Value, so there may be a close equivalent on the shelf, but their warehouse also contains over 100,000 SKUs that are available to us.  We need your help to make sure we didn’t overlook your favorite detergent or hammer.  As we get customer requests, we will either add the product back to the shelf, or create special orders to accommodate individual needs.  Many times we can get product from Ace the next day.

If you haven’t already heard, Page Hardware is becoming an Ace store.  Don’t freak out!  Page’s is not changing ownership, name, location, or staff.

What is Ace?

Ace is a hardware buying cooperative that allows independent hardware stores, like Page’s, to buy a wide assortment of products at competitive prices.  Ace also offers its members advertising, training support, and benefits like ship-to-store from, the Ace Rewards program, and Ace gift cards.  Read more about Ace’s history here.

Ace is not a franchise that tells its members what to carry or how to merchandise its stores.  Ace is not buying Page Hardware.  Page Hardware is becoming a member of the Ace buying cooperative.

What is staying the same?

People – Andrew Page is still the third-generation owner of this family business.  The management team will remain in place, Ray will still be greeting you at the front register, and all of the employees on the hardware and appliance floors will still be offering you assistance with a smile.  We are not going anywhere!

Location – We love our historic home at the south end of the Guilford Green.  Our name will remain Page Hardware & Appliance Co., and the same wooden sign will hang above our front door.  You won’t see a gigantic neon sign flickering on the outside of the building, nor any major expansion of the business.

Paint – We brought in Benjamin Moore paint in the fall, and we will continue to carry the Benjamin Moore paint line after the transition.

Appliances – We purchase major appliances from the New England Appliance & Electronics Group (NEAEG), an appliance buying cooperative.  Like Ace and True Value, NEAEG allows us to offer a competitive selection of appliances and to match pricing with the box stores.  This relationship is not changing with the transition to Ace.

What is changing?

Products – You will start to see packaging throughout the store branded as Ace.  We will also have access to new national brands like Craftsman, Traeger, and an exclusive Weber grill built just for Ace.  Some favorite brands and products may disappear, like Green Thumb,  or a specific scent of detergent.  Please ask an employee to help you find an alternative item if you don’t see your go-to product on the shelf.

Rewards Program – In the coming months, our active rewards members will be transitioned to Ace Rewards.  Customers will receive coupons and mailings from Ace instead of True Value (You may continue to receive True Value Rewards mailings if you shop at Country Paint & Hardware or Killingworth True Value).  We will accept True Value Rewards coupons that have Page Hardware listed as the primary store throughout the transition.

Ship-to-store – Customers who currently buy items on for pick up at Page’s will need to shop on instead.  In the coming months, you will be able to select Page Hardware as your home store on  The site will show our pricing and inventory availability.  You can continue to shop at and pick up purchases at Country Paint & Hardware or Killingworth True Value.

Special Orders – Ace offers stores next-day delivery on special order products (Monday-Friday, if ordered by 1pm).  This allows us to service our customers better than ever before.  Tell us what you need, we will place an order, and get it here for you faster than most online stores.

Cards – As we make the transition to Ace, we will no longer be able to accept True Value gift cards.  We cannot currently sell or accept Ace gift cards, but that will change this spring.  Page Hardware gift cards are not affected by the change.  Customers with True Value Discover cards will no longer earn 3% on purchases at Page Hardware, but will earn 1% for purchases at our store.  Vouchers will be redeemable at Page’s through the winter.

Advertising – Bargains of the Month are a thing of the past, but stay tuned for Red Hot Buys.  These in-store promotions will run all month long, with copies available at Page’s for shoppers.  You will begin seeing more Ace circulars in local papers this spring, too.

Deals – As we make room for new Ace product, you will see deep discounts on many hardware and housewares products.  Check our Facebook page for updates on sale items.

We ask you to please be patient as we transition the store this winter and early spring.  We hope that the change will be a positive one for our customers.  Thank you for continuing to support your local hardware store.
